This book is reminiscent of Thank you, Mr. Falker in that it is about a leader who is able to reach a student, and change their life.
However, in this book, the student being reached is a racist and a bully – which is interesting, because it necessitates the reader to wonder why Mr. Lincoln would even try to reach someone unkind and discriminatory.

However, in this book, the student being reached is a racist and a bully – which is interesting, because it necessitates the reader to wonder why Mr. Lincoln would even try to reach someone unkind and discriminatory.
Some Debrief Question -
- Is the bully happy?
- Why do you think he is so mean?
- Does it help to be mean to mean people?
- Why is Mr. Lincoln a leader?
- Why didn’t Mr. Lincoln give up on the boy?
- How are people like the birds?
- Is it harder to help someone mean, or to help someone nice?
