“I know that I do not lose when you win. I will not resent others’ accomplishments.”
Before introducing this theme, I would like to remind you that you are completely allowed to focus on particular themes longer than suggested on the calendar – conforming with the prevailing suggested unit is not nearly as important as ensuring your topic is relevant and helpful to your students. With this said, this week’s theme is – for the younger groups – rather simple. Appreciations concern identifying the actions others do for you – and then emphasizing the importance of recognizing these actions.
When approaching this theme with the older groups, you might consider emphasizing the importance of appreciating peers – as opposed to authority figures, as is emphasized with the younger group. Appreciation is valuable because we care about other people, and thus we care about how they think of us. With low self-esteem groups, learning that others value their actions is extraordinarily powerful. |
